Father’s Day Fitness
ByHow did you spend Father’s Day today? Maybe you went to a nice restaurant and ate until you had “a case of the fat happy’s”, as my former trumpet teacher, Dr. David Kosmyna would say. Perhaps you spent the day doing other “classic dad” activities like fishing, hiking, watching a game on TV, going to see and hear music performed, or something along those lines. I can’t think of a better way to spend quality time with my own dad than doing a Father’s Day fitness activity. I wish that could be the case. If only he were still alive today, I would have gotten him up and moving.
My own fitness transformation took place after my dad died. I would like to think that if he were in fact alive today that he would have taken the fitness journey with me, as my mom decided to do. I think my dad dying and then me seeing how life is short so I should live rather than just simply exist helped my mom take that leap into the fitness world. For those of you who still have your parents, make every day count. Make everyday their day. You can make everyday Father’s Day Fitness Day or Mother’s Day Fitness Day. Fitness is such an AWESOME way to get some incredible bonding time in!
So, the question might be, “What’s the best way to get my parent moving if they are sedentary?” Beachbody created a workout with Tony Horton called the Tony and the Folks fitness program. This was my mom’s “on-switch” to fitness. She began the program in May, 2008 and she did it for 2 months. This highly-effective, low impact workout for “older” folks will make them feeling young again. I was thrilled to see my mom pop this DVD in and do this workout with a real big smile on her face almost every single day. This fitness program is a great gift to a parent! Check out my write up of Tony and the Folks!
For those of you who do not know, after my dad died, I decided that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. My dad totally acknowledged and 100% supported my music and acting abilities after he saw me perform, but I also know that he had such an incredible self-sustaining work ethic that he wished I had. After he died, that is really when my hardcore drive to succeed in life became apparent, which is why after being successful for over a year in continuing my fitness transformation, I decided to become a Beachbody Coach so that I could earn money with Beachbody. So I have a challenge out there for those of you who have completed some Beachbody fitness programs: Isn’t it time you got paid for the workouts you are probably telling everyone about? If the answer is yes, you need to hands-down work with me.
